European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award for the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV

Announced by the European Commission, the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV has retained its HR Excellence in Research Award.

18 May 2020

The award recognises the continued and innovative work by the university to enhance working conditions for researchers as set out in the European Charter and Code. The award was retained following the university’s eight-year review.

Conducted by an international peer reviewer team, the rigorous assessment confirms that the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV has shown clear commitment to engaging with the principles of the and improving research environment and culture. Vitae, which administers the Award, highlighted efforts made to engage with and embed the Early Career Researcher community into institutional decision making, initiatives including the research mentoring scheme and achievements in addressing the equality agenda through Athena Swan, the Race Charter Award and being a top 100 Stonewall employer.

Professor Tara Dean, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), said: “We are delighted to have retained the HR Excellence in Research Award, demonstrating the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV’s long-term commitment to the career development of our researchers. We are also pleased to be commended for our achievements in driving progress through our work around Equality and Diversity.

I am grateful to the team in Research, Enterprise and Social Partnerships (RESP) and the Concordat Implementation Steering Group who prepared our submission and to the entire research and enterprise community at the university for making this recognition possible through their efforts and teamwork. Our planned actions aim to ensure that staff are able to fully realise their potential in a university that is inspirational and supportive.”
